High-Level Primitives

The High-Level Primitives topics covered in this project are:

  • Creation of view-dependent Levels of Detail
  • Subdivision Surfaces
  • NURBS
  • Volume Rendering
OpenSG will be extended by scenegraph nodes for volume rendering. These nodes will provide simple interfaces for specifying certain volume rendering parameters. Although they are primary intended for scientific visualization of 3D data sets from medical imaging and simulation, they will also allow volumetric effects like clouds or fire in OpenSG scenes. In order to perform interactive visualization, texture-based volume rendering algorithms will be used. Suitable hardware-abstraction layers will guarantee volume visualization support on all OpenSG-plattforms. See the project page at the University of Stuttgart for a detailed description of the work package goals and methods.
